the Carnvial Chronicles
Monday, 4 September 2006

Welcome to spring! Or, umm... "autumn", err.. or "fall", if that's your thing. Things are warming up at home, and we have been very busy preparing for the new season!

In this issue for your reading pleasure...

  • "Unsuited"
  • Bornfire 2006 @ the Singapore Arts Festival, featuring *illluminate*
  • Next Firetwirling Workshops: December '06

"Unsuited"

Actually, it's the name of our latest fire show. We take your typical suited businessman and throw him into a splendid and surreal fiery fantasy. "Unsuited" will debut in September '06 and features briefcase juggling, flaming tango, flaming sword-fight choreography and more. Read more about the show here.

Perhaps it's just an excuse to dress up like we have 'real jobs'... You decide ;-)

Bornfire 2006 / Singapore Arts Festival

23rd June - 25th June 2006
We had an amazing visit to Singapore in June to be a part of South East Asia's very first fire festival, Bornfire. Supported by the Singapore Arts Festival, Bornfire brought together artists from around the globe to showcase the diversity of fire performance art. A truly inspiring event. Our thanks to the organisers of Bornfire, and the Singapore Fire Flys for their kindness and hospitality. Thanks also to the Amazing Rubber Heart Duo, and Singapore's plethora of vegetarian restaurants! See photos from the event.

Bornfire also inspired our newest blacklight production, *illuminate*. This performance was a highlight of the festival and was developed in collaboration between 10 Australian and Singaporean artists. This colourful non-fire show included some unusual stunts such as a mummified poi artist, giant UV fans and multi-tiered flag acrobalance.

Fire Twirling Workshops

During September, October and November, a number of our fire twirling instructors will be doing charity work overseas. Because of this, we will be postponing our weekly workshops until December 2006. We are already taking bookings for the next staff workshop (7th Dec) and poi workshop (14th Dec). Places are expected to fill up quickly, so get in early to secure a spot! See our website for more details.

Meanwhile, don't forget about Monday night juggle jam at the Southbank Piazza, Burleigh Heads fire jam on Sunday eve's, and the monthly Moonfest gathering. See here for details. That should be enough to keep anyone busy until Summer!
